Jam of the Day: Wednesday Feb 15, 2012

It’s my birthday, 25 years on this planet. The plan for this year include great change and adventure. As Patagonia founder Yvon Chinard stated in the documentary 180 South, “fear of the unknown is the greatest fear of all, we just went for it”. I watched 180 South a few years back from the recommendation of BC, it changed my life. I needed some sort of journey that would help shape and define my life.

The winter after I first watched 180 South my parents bought a cabin within an hour of my favorite wild trout stream. Just about every weekend that winter I was driving a lot of miles to fish alone. Each early morning drive I would listen to Ugly Casanova’s “Here’s to Now”. It was my anthem, reminding me that I was doing what I found to be important, the here and now of existence. So here on my birthday I sit a conqueror of the useless, ready for more experience and adventure.

How Small A Trout

Maybe your stature as a fly fisherman isn't determined by how big a trout you can catch, but by how small a trout you can catch without being disappointed. -- John Gierach
